How much do online display ads cost?
Display ads are generally charged on a cost per thousand impressions basis (CPM). That is, you pay a certain rate per 1000 times your ads are served on display network sites. For remarketing campaigns on the Google display network, this figure will generally range between $1 - $4 CPM depending on the campaign. You can also buy direct placements on websites relevant to your target audience. The prices for these ads completely depends on the website owner. For example, ads on your local newspaper's website could be $10 CPM, while the homepage of the Sydney Morning Herald website will cost you an arm and a leg. Prices are all relative to the size of the audience you're targeting.
What are my retargeting options on social media?
With social retargeting, you can show specific ads to people who have been to specific pages on your site. You can target users who have watched specific videos on your social accounts. We can even help you reach people based on their previous engagement behaviour with your site. Pretty powerful stuff. We reckon social retargeting is well worth testing out for any business or brand.
How should I split my budget between search and retargeting?
It really depends on your business and what products and services you're selling. Honestly though... if we had to spend our last $100 on digital advertising, we would spend $99 of that on search engines. Search drives people with high buying intent to your website. We normally recommend retargeting as a supporting media to make the most of traffic acquired through organic and paid search campaigns. What would we do with the other $1? Chocolate. We would buy chocolate 🙂
What about click fraud and bot traffic?
Yeah, it happens unfortunately. Adage recently reported that anywhere between 3-37% of online display ad clicks are fraudulent and made by bots instead of actual humans. This obviously isn't ideal, so we stick with the trusted display networks and focus on return website traffic and conversions instead of potentially fluffy impressions numbers.
What kind of ad creatives can I use?
There are a heap of great creative options for online display ads these days. You can run with static image ads of all different shapes and sizes. We can also help you with fancy, dynamic HTML5 ads that will help you stand out amongst the noise online.
How long do I have to run my display advertising campaign for?
As long as you like. We'd normally test online display ads and retargeting over the course of a month and see what kind of response we get for you. We can then scale based on results.
